Not Having Joy from Job Interviews

Facing a job interview is daunting for many. If you are working you have probably been through a formal interview. Here is a scenario that you might have some experience of.

Consider a position where you desperately want the job. It might be the money, conditions or you just don’t enjoy your current job anymore. The night before you decide to prepare for the interview.

As you look thought your CV you start thinking there must be hundreds of people that have better experience, they might even have family in the company or just can talk a good game. To calm yourself down you start practicing those ideas you have seen on the internet. Imagining the interviewer naked works for a few minutes until your realise they might be doing the same to you.

Reluctantly you put your barely read CV away and go to bed to dream of turning up to the interview naked. Having slept in you barely make it to the company on time. Being out of breath you wheeze the name of your interviewer at the receptionist and go blank when she asks you for your name. You get the idea she does not think much of you.

A few minutes later a sour faced old cow greets you as your interviewer. She smiles at you like a serial killer just about to fall on their prey as she leads you to the interview room. In a desperate attempt to clam down you start some small talk. This basically consists of babbling something about the weather, the traffic and some TV you watched last night. Luckily the interview room is close by.

The prune faced cow offers you a coffee knowing full well you will spill it down your front. After the mess has been cleared her face cracks in to the approximation of a smile and she says “As a gentle start to the interview, based on your CV what can you offer our company?”

You immediately start to worry about what is going to happen when it gets rough. You then realise you didn’t bring any copies of your CV and can’t remember what is on it. A few minutes of you wittering about your favourite holiday destinations and she now things your CV is a fake.

The old crone decides to focus you in on some key areas by asking why you want to leave your current employment. You fumble around trying not to admit that you hate the company, the work and your boss and eventually hit on a “looking for fresh challenges” answer. Annoyingly she asks what sort of fresh challenges you think her company will give you.

Like a guppy opening and closing your mouth scrambling for an answer you desperately clutch at straws. Realising that she may be picturing you as naked has not helped and now you have forgotten the original question. You hope to make it out of the interview sometime in this lifetime.

As the blood stops pumping round your body your old hag informs you that you can now ask questions because she has finished all of her’s. Trying to appear keen you ask her when will the organisation make a decision. She answers the question, and leaves you outside the company wondering if you have got the job.

Should you have experienced any of this, think about how different things could be. If only you could develop a persona of calm, focused authority, knew how to dramatically increase rapport and take control and could confidently answer any interview question naturally. How about the idea of being able to implant the idea of you being the best candidate for the role in to the interviewer’s head?

Seem impossible? May be not, many of these skills happen naturally and you have certainly seen others do this as part of their daily lives.

Have you ever met someone just walking through life always getting the job they want even when not qualified? These are the people using these skills, sometimes naturally, sometimes they have been trained. In most situations you can learn all these skills in a matter of hours.

Your CV will pull a lot more interviews if you just add some NLP and psychological techniques. Spending just a couple of hours CV Writing would pay you back dividends. It may take a couple of hours working through a Hypnotic Interview Answer formula, but once it is done you will be able to answer interview questions powerfully for life.

Even though they don’t seem easy skills to master building rapport, maintaining your composure and banishing interview nerves could take as little as thirty minutes. The only difference between a great job and the job you are doing now is spending a couple of hours mastering job interview techniques.
